About WomenCrush Music:

#WomenCrush Music is a non-profit organization that serves to create opportunities for rising women songwriters by hosting international showcases, educational workshops & networking events. Whether they are just in the beginning of their careers and want to start performing at local venues, or they’ve just released their second album and are ready to go on tour. #WomenCrush  Music wants to connect artists with future collaborators, educate them about the business and inspire them to make an impact on this male-dominated industry.

It was founded in January 2017, when Ashley Kervabon saw a need to build a stronger community amongst women in the music industry in Portland, OR. When the first showcase was a success, Ashley reached out to women in her online music communities to see if any other cities had ongoing showcase series for women artists. It was then that she realized there was a void that needed to be filled and she started her expansion by bringing the showcase series to her hometown of NYC. By fall of 2017 #WomenCrush  had grown dramatically, including several new team members and many more new cities to launch in 2018, such as, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville, San Francisco, San Jose, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Missoula!

Follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay posted on their events at @womencrushmusic.

Wednesday, January 17 Mapache, Suzanne Santo of HONEYHONEY at Doug Fir Lounge

Close your eyes and imagine The Everly Brothers wearing tie-dyed nudie suits. Okay, now open them. There’s Mapache. Young ones Clay Finch and Sam Blasucci—the Mapache boys—are barely in their twenties, but are already rising to the top of the new wave of West Coast Cosmic Americana. According to Saving Country Music, “…Mapache can fill up a room with more soul soaring harmony than most symphonic assemblies, carried to great heights by melodies that are incredibly supple and bursting with delight, timeless in their textures and delivery, yet with subtle new turns that give Mapache the benefit of originality to go along with the nostalgic yearning.” The duo is set to support Suzanne Santo of HONEYHONEY at Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, OR on Wednesday, January 17.

Friday, January 12 Soul’d Out Presents Salvatore Manalo EP Release w/ Maxwell Cabana & Stephanie Kitson at Jack London Revue

9 PM: Stephanie Kitson
10 PM: Salvatore Manalo
11 PM: Maxwell Cabana

Salvatore Manalo got his start in music playing at church and quickly fell in love. He went on to study at a music school where he then found his love for songwriting. After a lifetime of traveling, he is now planting his roots in Portland to launch his solo career. His songwriting infuses honest storytelling with musical complexity. An amalgamation of pop, soul, R&B, and folk delivers a sound that is refreshing but familiar. Having played lead guitar in a number of projects, Salvatore is currently in a trio of rotating roles with talented members Evan Knapp and Danny Frye, offering support to each other’s solo careers as needed. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign and recording session at The Rye Room, he is preparing to release his debut EP in January of 2018.
Special guest James Villa will also be gracing the band with his incredible musicianship on the keys during the show!

Formed in 2016, Maxwell Cabana and his band are a garage, R&B four-piece residing in Portland, Oregon. Members include Seattle native Murray McCulloch, Portland’s own Noah Puggarana and Chicago-born brothers Sean and Jamie Higgins. Their latest release is a self-titled debut EP that combines the group’s love for old school R&B/Soul music as well as an affinity for jazz and psychedelia. The band’s influences range from Tim Maia to Madlib, Donny Hathaway to Gorillaz. Maxwell Cabana performs live shows in the Portland area and is currently recording material for the band’s next EP.

Stephanie Kitson is a working jazz and soul vocalist in the Pacific Northwest. She takes well-known songs and creatively arranges them so that her band can bring them to the next level in a live setting. Additionally, she loops her voice on the five-track, Boss RC-505 looper using beat boxing, bass lines, and harmonies to make full arrangements of covers and original songs. Given her foundations in jazz and arranging, she is known for her improvisation in her live performances. Her goal is to leave space so no two performances are exactly the same. In addition to a set of live looping, she will be premiering one original song and three new arrangements with her fellow musicians (that impress her every rehearsal): Matt Sazima, Kirk Kabfleisch, and Alex Koehler.
