Continuing to write and release new music is par for the course for Portland artist, Brian Copeland. He is about to release a new single, New Wave, on Saturday, November 14 at one of Portland’s beloved venues, Jimmy Mak’s. The bill is a fun and diverse one with folky Americana Singer Songwriter, Kelly Brightwell and local roots rockers, The Beautiful Trainwrecks. $10 cover for all three acts, no tickets necessary, but reservations always suggested. 503-295-6542

We spoke about how much fun it is to play such a true music venue like Jimmy’s, and about the sometimes difficult, and yet necessary task of writing a positive-message song. Brian told me after the interview that recently he has turned to a piano, not his go-to instrument, to write some new material. He said that since it’s not his comfort zone, but he knows enough about chords, it helped simplify the writing process and not get stuck in one of the same strum patterns as on previous guitar-driven songs. Brian played his new single, New Wave, for us at the PRP Studio: an acoustic stripped-down version, not yet released to the public. The studio version of New Wave with lots of layered vocals and instrumentation will be available as a free download at the Jimmy Mak’s show!
